After spending so much time immersed in Pizzaonian culture and politics it is difficult to adjust to American politics. The difference is simple: Pizzaonian politics is about finding solutions; American politics is absorbed in building power blocs.
Of course, Pizzaonia is a beta-world that makes everything easier, but it allows us to see how destructive democracy can be to its ideals when governing is no longer the goal.
Again, we find ourselves dependent on the People, always our last resort and redeeming quality. Let us hope enough of us show up and vote to make things right again. Democracy not only needs a majority vote; for the system to work it needs a majority of independent voters to vote.

It always seemed strange to our friends that Franco and I portalized to Pizzaonia. It was a simple and easy decision to make. It became clear to us while we love our country and choose to remain its permanent citizens, our sanity required we find a beta-world country that would have us.
The rest is history. For those who have followed our adventures in Pizzaonia what we have accomplished these past few years is well known. Now that we have retired from our Pizzaonian responsibilities and have returned home, we will occupy ourselves by writing our journal.
It should be clear to all by now that the world is dysfunctional. This seems to be particularly true for the United States. What we are left with are power blocs who use this dysfunction to increase the value of their vested interest. No one even pretends that they intend to fix the country. If they did, why are we subjected to such absurd proposals from those vying for political power?
Each side wraps themselves in some great truth and then proposes ridiculous solutions that no one can accept. This leaves everyone on the high ground – advocates for undoable grand proposals with no chance of seeing the light of day.
However, at the heart of this irrationality sits the one truth that no politician can unravel regardless how hard he or she may try to do so. No matter how bad things get the dream of “evolving toward a more perfect union” persists. This journey still has a rendezvous with destiny that no one can derail.
This is where Brother Franco and I will start. We still have some duties remaining and we will continue to portalize between here and Pizzaonia. However, our full time job will be here in the United States representing Pizzaonian Pizza conglomerate, Pizza digogo DiVinci, and conversing with you.

SUBJECT: Pizzaonian pizza conglomerate, Pizza digogo DiVinci joins with John Frank Associates in new advertising venture.
In a stunning announcement, Pizzaonian pizza conglomerate, Pizza digogo DiVinci, will enter the marketing and advertising world by joining with John Frank Associates, a small and relatively unknown marketing firm.
This is the first departure for Pizza digogo DiVinci from the mozzarella pizza world they now dominate in Pizzaonia. Since their alliance with Pizzaonian Monasteries, the conglomerate’s miracle, mozzarella pizza, has not only become the national food, but the national symbol of the Pizzaonian world as well. It also marks their first business venture away from the beta-world of Pizzaonia
Brother Giorgio Di Augustino, who now heads Bakery operations for Pizza digogo at the monastery, will also spearhead the advertising and marketing administration for the conglomerate.
When asked about the oddity of this move and the alliance with an unknown company Brother Di Augustino said, "This venture is not strange to those who know our history. John Frank Associates is an idea company and we are an idea that they created. What better basis could you find for a relationship than that?”
If the success of the conglomerate in the beta-world of Pizzaonia is any indication of the future, their relationship with John Frank Associates will be interesting to watch.

Diverti Mento, news director for Pizzaonian Newsertainment Network said today that PNN "is not shilling for Mitt Romney."
This statement by PNN is a direct result of the accusations made by Rick Santorum that Fox News* and the Drudge Report* are playing favorites and favor Mr. Romney’s candidacy.
“Under no circumstances will PNN get involved in partiality toward any candidate.” However, Mr. DiMento made it clear that Mitt Romney’s hairstyle “is by far the best of any of the Republican hopefuls.”

Diverti Mento, news director of Pizzaonian Newsertainment Network, gave a spirited defense to thwart the criticism he received with his appointment of Abe Surdity as a PNN political correspondent.
“If you want journalism, go listen to Edward R. Murrow tapes. We are in the age of Newsertainment and our policies at PNN will continue to bring the public the best in Newsertainment service.
If you want reality watch reality shows. Today, news programs are the new sitcoms of entertainment, and we at PNN are determined to lead the way. Abe Surdity, with his background in horse racing and dog breeding is the perfect man for the job,” declared Mr. Mento
Public reaction is vocal and mixed, but we are getting what the Pizzaonian News Network expected when they hired Mr. Mento, a well- known Pizzaonian mystic, as the news director.
If, for some reason, you are not concerned about the role of creativity and visual language in the new photography that is now emerging, you should be. .
The nature of the changes that the digital process brings to us changes the perspective of the photograph as a limited medium. The interpretive photograph requires fresh and better-honed creative skills.
For years, we confused craft and technique with artistic talent. That time has passed, and we are entering into a new era. Since the craft, for the most part is completed for us by the technology, substituting or confusiing craft for visual talent is history.
While some understanding of craft is necessary, the critical skill is the ability to tell a visual story. We have to make a clear distinction between knowledge of the imaging software and knowledge of visual language.
Visual story telling requires a keen sense of how visual language is used and interpreted by your audience. This includes advanced editing skills and a conceptual awareness of symbols, color and design.
A sense of the whole that brings universal and holistic meaning to each image will be essential for today's emergng photographer. These will be the arenas that the professional will use to separate themselves from the amateurs.
From a professional perspective, this becomes a matter of survival. If we do not define who we are then the public and/or the technology will. If so, it is the end of our profession as we know it. Is this good or bad?
I am not going to profess judgments here. What I am professing is that change is upon us and is evolutionary in its significance. Are we going to be ahead of the change and help define it, or will the change wash over us like a giant tsunami?

On the nature of visual language
The question should occur to us: Why Photography? With so many ways to express yourself today why choose the camera as your primary tool for creative expression.
For some, the answer comes quick and easy. The camera offers the dilettante an easy tool to use for personal expression with a minimum of preparation, and with today’s digital automation, the camera is easier to use than at any other time.
No question that the camera is ubiquitous and that photography is the people’s art form. The digital camera's automation performs many of the tasks that earlier photographers would spend several months, if not years, learning to master.
Digital images fill the air we breathe. Social media creates multiple platforms for photographers to share pictures. Never before have so many images been available for us to share.
With such easy access and availability, it begs the question: Why so few creative and exciting images that stir the soul and imagination.
Everyday we are exposed to well-crafted images that are at best clichés. They serve their purpose, and I am no way suggesting they should stop being produced. These images serve a very important purpose for those that produce them.
I am concerned about the lack of creative images that show photography to be more than a recording device.
Photography is at a crossroads since technology has changed how the medium is defined. What does the future hold and what will the new photographers see as their role?
I am looking forward to the answer.
