Dear John,
Giovanni asked me to write you since he is going to be very busy today dealing with the miracle investigation committee from ICPM. Needless to say, things are pretty tense around here. No one seems to have any idea how this is going to turn out.
As you know, we are completely dependent on Pizza digogo for our financial support and if they choose to pull out, the monastery is going to be in serious financial trouble. Brother Veronica will be meeting with Giovanni most of the day to develop a strategy to deal with the committee. The outcome from these hearings could very well determine our fate.
In the meanwhile, all bakery operations have been suspended and no one knows if we will start up again. To start, the committee will be looking carefully at Brother Veronica's recipe. That poses other trouble, since I am not sure the committee knows Brother Veronica is a woman. There, I've said it, the one thing we are forbidden to mention. Let's hope this does not make matters worse. Trying to explain our selection process to ICPM could be daunting.
As you know, Giovanni is risking his fictitious status by writing to you, and now I am doing the same thing. Curious isn't it, that somehow keeping in touch with the real world still seems important. I will try to keep you posted if Giovanni is not available. I am sure the monastery will issue a press release sometime today.
Your friend,
Franco
