When the most unknown of the unknown possible presidential candidates, Brother Giovanni, declared without any reservations that he would not be, now or in the future, a candidate for President of the United States, there was a visible sign of relief among the other unknown presidential candidates. 

As one very popular, unknown candidate said to me under the condition he remain anonymous, “Brother Giovanni was the frontrunner among the unknown presidential candidates, and it would have been very difficult to unseat his frontrunner’s position. 

His withdrawal from the race makes the race for the least known, unknown candidate wide open.  We can only wait and see how this plays out.”

Giovanni, 

Sorry I haven’t been able to write the last few days.  Right now I am heading north on Interstate 5 to Seattle.  I am going to spend the night in Redding, California – looking forward to it.  Always wanted to see the town and experience this part of Northern California. 

I had a strange thing happen to me the other day in a restaurant on 5 near Sacramento.  These two people recognized me and came up to me and said, “pardon me, but aren’t you Jesus?”  

Now that doesn’t happen very often.  As you know part of the reason I take time to exclusively be human is to be like everyone else and lose myself in the crowd.  I am a bit reluctant to give that up so my reaction was mixed. 

I wasn’t sure if I should admit who I was, but then again, I am Jesus and that would not have looked very good to say no.  So, I said yes, I am. 

God love them, and I know that WE do, they didn’t waste anytime in asking me the same old question I always get.,  “Why is it a loving God created a world with so many imperfections?  How could a perfect God create an imperfect world?” 

Try answering that after a big lunch!   I told them to go read Matthew 7.3 for their answer.  I don’t know if that will satisfy them but the answer is there if they are willing to think about it.  I did not stick around to find out.  

Just as an aside, as I was leaving a couple at a side table, realizing who I was, asked me if I would pick up their check for them?  I told them I already did, not the lunch check, but the big one that counts.  I am not sure they got what I meant.

Conjectures of a recovering dilettante - On the need for a creative environment

 
I wonder how many of us feel we are creative?  And if we do, how many of us feel we have no legitimate outlet for our creativity? 

If there is no way for your creativity to flow in your present environment, then change it.  This is not only wise, it is a moral imperative.  

To become the person you are, not just who you were meant to be, but the person you are – you must plant your creative seed in fertile ground. 

Do not take this warning lightly.  Your life may depend on it.

Remarks from an address by Brother Giovanni to novice monks at the Pizzaonian monasteries annual retreat.

We should take heed to preserve this fragile relationship with a document and the people it serves.

 

When one considers the history of the United States you wonder how it managed to stay together and not blow apart into small pieces that scattered into infinity as a good idea gone bad. 

Our history is a giant melodrama filled with grandiose ideas of being God’s own, glorious and disgraceful wars, demonizing national politics, policies that practiced greed over patriotism followed by policies choosing patriotism over greed.  Sprinkled throughout this mosaic we have moments of incredible generosity and blatant self-serving. 

And through all this tumultuous history we manage to remain standing.  The inevitable question is why?

 

Many will choose our spirit and entrepreneurship - others our incredible resilience and economy - still others a military stronger and more durable than any other.  And to some extent, all are partially right. 

Perhaps our resilience is based on something more abstract and fragile.  I believe the resilience of the United States is based on the simple and direct words of our Constitution. 

What is amazing about the Constitution of the United States is not only its straightforward declarations, but the fact that the majority of Americans continue to believe in it as the law of the land.  (With the notable exception of our civil war) This is a remarkable trust between a government and its people.

 

As a result, no matter how calamitous the time, though the people may rant and rave and disagree with each other, they allow the law of the land to play itself out and eventually right the situation to the satisfaction of the majority and the begrudging acceptance of the minority. 

We should take heed to preserve this fragile relationship with a document and the people it serves.  If ever the government erodes the people’s trust in this remarkable relationship, it will be the beginning of the slide into oblivion.

Maybe a person who meets with Jesus in the park would not seem so bad in comparison.

 
My life has taken a few interesting turns since I shared my meetings with Jesus in the park with my fellow monks in Pizzaonia.  Of course, they all think I am crazy and maybe they are right – at least by Pizzaonian standards. 

At the time of my revelations to my fellow monks, I was also Supreme Pizzaonian of all of Pizzaonia. That made it very awkward for them since they could not just sweep me under the rug. 

So I was allowed to become Bureau Chief in Worldonia (United States) for the Pizzaonian News Service.  This allowed me a modicum of continued respectability and everyone in Pizzaonia saved face.  It has worked out well for both of us. 

The monks reasoning was simple. In the beta-world of Pizzaonia, a land of peace without wars and strife, my idiosyncrasies seemed bizarre.  But in the United States they might just overlook my seemingly unacceptable behavior. 

They concluded since the United States exists in a world that allows and condones the existence of war, poverty and suffering that could be alleviated but isn’t, and also seems to thrive on blatant, individual selfishness and narcissism – maybe a person who meets with Jesus in the park would not seem so bad in comparison. 

 
Maybe they are right.  Either way it seems like a reasonable solution.  As for me, I was able to rationalize my behavior easily.  Since Christians believe in a living God they pray to and talk to at least in their thoughts, why is it so strange to believe He can choose to visit with whomever He chooses? 

This is not as exclusive as it may seem at first glance.  It seems He is quite willing to meet with anyone who actually believes it is possible to meet with him – it seems he enjoys the opportunity when it presents itself. 

Like so many other things, we believe, but we don’t really believe.  That has always been the problem for all of us humans from the beginning of time.  We created God for ourselves.  He created us for other reasons.

Note from Jesus – “Now that Easter is over I am heading for Seattle.”

 This is the lastest note from Jesus as he drives across the United States. (dated: May 6,2011)

Giovanni, 

The time has come for me to get back in touch with the world.  The Easter Season was unusually busy for me this year – it always is in times of uncertainty. 

I always need a break after Easter – for one going in and out of being human to being God isn’t all that easy.  I always feel a bit of culture shock during the transition. 

I know everyone believes I am all three persons at the same time, but I enjoy it more when I am one person at a time.  As for now, I am back in human form and will be here for awhile. 

I am sorry that I can’t keep our regular meetings in the park. I am going to be on the road for a while and will need to stay in touch by writing and email.  I still enjoy writing my letters at the end of the day so this will be how I stay in touch. 

 
Last time I wrote I was leaving Elko, Nevada heading for Reno.  I spent a few days in Reno (Yes, I lost at the tables) and headed north.  I thought I would spend a few days in Seattle and see how things are going there. 

I noticed on the news the other day the world is supposed to end this month.  It’s funny that I know nothing about it.  You would think I would get the word since I am a major player in the event.  Somehow this second coming business, while well intended, is getting out of hand. 

The second coming idea was introduced to get people to commit completely in faith to my (our) Father.  After all, if everything in this world is going to go the way we planned it, it’s a lot easier when we humans focus on a God who loves us beyond all reason.  

And in the beginning it worked.  The trouble is everyone decided to put a timetable on the happening and now it’s completely out of hand. 

 
I don’t know why folks don’t realize the second coming happens for thousands of people everyday.  For each of us humans the second coming happens the moment we physically die.  You don’t need the sounding of trumpets for the occasion.  It just happens. Incidentally, it’s a major part of my work and it takes a lot of my time. 

You would think it should be obvious by now that Christianity only works when Christians live lives of complete trust in our Dad – nothing else short of that works.  

Wow - just noticed the time.  It’s getting late and I need to get some rest if I am going to get going early tomorrow.  I love being on the road.  Write me and let me know what’s up.  You know the address.  Till then….your friend,
