SUBJECT: CRAP AND TRADE FLATULENCE POLICY DERAILED BY SUPREME PIZZAONIAN

 

 

The Pizzaonian News Service announced today that Supreme Pizzaonian, Brother Giovanni derailed what was called “ a misguided adventure” by pizza conglomerate, Pizza digogo DiVinci to establish a “crap and trade” formula that, if approved, would have been applied to the various dairy herds supplying the mozzarella cheese for the famous Pizzaonian Mozzarella Miracle Pizza Pies.

 

 

If the new “C&T” rules had been allowed to continue, smaller suppliers would have been able to sell their cattle flatulence emissions allowances to Pizza digogo.  This would have permitted the pizza conglomerate to bypass the stringent restrictions imposed by ICPM on cattle flatulence discharges for its dairy herds.

 

 

Specifically, the crap and trade rules would have reduced for larger and well-off pizza makers such as Pizza digogo, the amount of permissible emissions of nitrogen and ammonia coming from droppings left in the pastures by their diary cattle.

 

Brother Giovanni said, “this would have violated the intent of the International Conference of Pizza Monks' ruling to qualify Pizza digogo for the coveted 'es' designation and could not be allowed to stand. I am sure that our partners and brothers in pizza production meant no harm, however my position as Supreme Pizzaonian to all Pizzaonians left me no other option."

 

 

This decision by the Supreme Pizzaonian comes with possible political repercussions since the Pizzaonian monasteries receive much of their funding from the pizza conglomerate.

Many before have said it.  Regardless, no one hears.  

A job is a means to an end; your work or what you enjoy most is what your life is about.  They are not mutually exclusive.   

It is wonderful when your job, and your life’s work can be the same thing. However, let’s face it; the needs of this world are many and varied, and not all available jobs are a “laugh a minute.”  The idea that your job should be your bliss is a notion that belongs to poets and philosophers. 

In earlier times, factory workers, clerks and sundry service people were grateful they had jobs that could meet their responsibilities. Today, so much unhappiness exists because this truth is not accepted or understood. 

People followed their bliss in their spare time.  For some it was weekends, for others the occasional vacation.  For the lucky ones, they found some time during each week to pursue what they enjoyed most.  And, even if they didn’t, each worker maintained their dignity because they provided for those who counted on them. 

And, if that was all they had, there was dignity and respect in meeting your responsibilities.  It made for a life well spent.

 If you are going to comment on what is happening in the United States today you have to be careful as to the style of writing you choose.

Events here have become bizarre enough to make you wonder if you are witnessing reality or some weird form of satire that has replaced real life experiences.  The line between satire and life has become so blurred it is hard to know which is which.

All of this would be funny if it were not so serious.  It is absurd to contemplate, but I am told many people here get their information about world events by watching comedians comment on today’s news.  If this is true imagine the consequences in a democracy where some semblance of fact is necessary to make an informed decision.

What has caused this?  And why do people here feel the way they do about politicians and political events?  That will be for scholars of another generation to determine.  As for now we can only speculate.

Some time ago a funny thing happened in the United States on the way to the polling place.  Voters stopped taking their political leaders seriously.  To some extent they still try to pay attention to their elections and keep up with what’s happening in the political arena, but for the most part they no longer believe what they see or here. While information is king, facts are no longer relevant.

What replaced their need for facts is a nebulous, intuitive feeling on how the events they are witnessing affects them.  If they are agitated enough, they vote on this feeling, if not, they can wait for another day. If you think this is the way it always was, you might be right. 

However, what makes this time more alarming is the degree to which this phenomenon is now unfolding and shaping present and future events.  Information overload has taken its toll.

All of this is not lost on the opinion makers.  Today they are able to get information out to millions of people in minutes.  That information does not have to be accurate.  What it does have to be is good enough to create the negative or positive impression they are trying to place in the public’s mind about a candidate or an idea.

No longer do you see serious attempts to bring reform and positive change.  Now what you get is tacit acceptance of the system as it is while the manipulators without restraint use new, ingenious methods that exploit the situation to further their self-serving point of view.

Unfortunately, exploitation of public opinion has become the true art form in the United Sates. This includes the constant manipulating and bombarding of public opinion by innuendo, half-truths and lies all expertly packaged to be made palatable to a mass audience. 

This is now endemic to the culture here and has become so pervasive, cynicism is considered normal. Will they change this? - Only when it stops working – and I can see nothing in the immediate future that suggests that is going to happen.

As Edward Murrow said, “The speed of communications is wondrous to behold. It is also true that speed can multiply the distribution of information that we know to be untrue.”

The annual PA Coalition meeting ended with a new pledge of solidarity by the delegates.  Again, Pizzaonius IV, as is his custom, pledged to the delegates to alternate between being a committed Christian and Atheist every other year.   

The dedicated leadership of Pizzaonius has brought a new level of ecumenical dedication unparalleled in Pizzaonian history. His example should be an inspiration to all political leaders.

LETTERS TO FRANCO

Dear Franco, 

Since my last note, I portalized* back to the United States.  I am sorry I did not have time to see you, but I seem addicted to American politics, especially presidential elections.  

How lucky we are to live in Pizzaonia.  If you have any doubt, just spend some time in the world's western democracies.  Don’t get me wrong, there is much good here, but you can see in the evolution of American politics, especially American presidential elections, the beginning of serious decline. 

My compulsion to watch and report on the political events here is like being at a NASCAR race anticipating the crash, or watching a runaway train heading for the end of the track - morbid, yes, but still fascinating. 

It is clear the United States has very smart people for politicians, but what they are smart at is getting elected and not governing. This is so prevalent it no longer seems to concern the people.  Campaigning for political office rather than governing is so ubiquitous and pervasive here it has become the overriding concern of the electorate. 

What they no longer do here is get anything done – hard to believe from the “can do" country.  Since there is so much creativity and innovation here, you have to ask, “What is the problem?”  Why can’t this creativity be active in the political arena? 

Eventually, someone is going to have to question the system itself as the potential villain, a very taboo subject here.  Politics and business are now mired in a marketing and bumper sticker mentality. Democracy has become an event like the “Super Bowl” rather than a process. We can explore this further in my next letter. 

I have to run now.  Give my best to Sister Veronica and thank her for her ongoing support.  It is appreciated.

Diverti Mento, news director of Pizzaonian Newsertainment Network, gave a spirited defense to thwart the criticism he received with his appointment of Abe Surdity as a PNN political correspondent.

“If you want journalism, go listen to Edward R. Murrow tapes.  We are in the age of Newsertainment and our policies at PNN will continue to bring the public the best in Newsertainment service.  

If you want reality watch reality shows.  Today, news programs are the new sitcoms of entertainment, and we at PNN are determined to lead the way. Abe Surdity, with his background in horse racing and dog breeding is the perfect man for the job,” declared Mr. Mento 

Public reaction is vocal and mixed, but we are getting what the Pizzaonian News Network expected when they hired Mr. Mento, a well- known Pizzaonian mystic, as the news director.

Pizzaonian Newsertainment Network returns to its roots - will cover Pizzaonia exclusively. #news #network #politics

The editorial board of Pizzaonian Newsertainment Network announced today that it would focus on reporting the events in Pizzaonia exclusively.  Diverti Mento, PNN news director, said that the recent expansion of portalized coverage of the United States has left a serious gap in reporting the important events in Pizzaonia. 

“Though the events in the United States have been fertile ground for our type of discriminating coverage, our primary mission is to cover the Newsertainment in Pizzaonia,” said Mr. Mento 

Because of this decision, Brothers Giovanni and Franco will return permanently to Pizzaonia.  In addition, recent popular articles on the American political scene by Pizzaonius, founder of Pizzaonia, will be discontinued. 

“We know many of our readers will be disappointed at first by this decision; however, I am sure they will be happy with our more concerted effort to newsertain our Pizzaonia readership” said Mr. Mento. 

This announcement has caused some concern in Pizzaonia.  Many Pizzaonians fear that PNN’s return to the non-portalized beta-world will keep Pizzaonian culture more provincial.
