Often many artists find themselves in circumstances that distract from their art. Most can work in a neutral environment, but none can work successfully in a negative space.
Often the nature of our personalities interferes with making the right decision. How do you find the courage to do what needs to be done? Politeness and the need to be liked can be so ingrained into your personality it becomes part of your consciousness.
Usually, you survive this because the goodwill of the people you live with allows for the consideration of each other’s needs, and room is made for everyone to manage comfortably. What happens when this atmosphere does not exist?
This is the moment of courage. This is when you are faced with what needs to be done. However, that is not the problem. What needs to be done is clear. The problem is having the courage to do what your decision asks of you. What you do here will decide your happiness.
First, the resolution of any creative problem will not be easy. It will be even more difficult if your daily environment does not support artistic activities. Many people cannot place value on anything that does not have some immediate monetary value as part of its reward. If this is your situation, this is the least desirable place to be.
Ask any artist regardless of the discipline and they understand the issue immediately. Most creative projects often require years of work without sight of immediate reward. While you understand this completely, others don't. Again, you are not the problem. The environment and the people with whom you share your space are.
First, recognize that long standing issues are not easily resolved. It takes courage to understand that something has to change, and you are the only one that can bring that about.
What do you do? This is the hard part. What needs to be done is clear, if you want your art to survive. Final resolution? How you do it is up to you. Only you can make that decision.
However, one thing always needs to remain clear: As you continue to meet the demands of your artistic endeavor, you must always continue to meet your financial responsiblities - there can be no exceptions to this.
