Here at the “The Pizzaonian” we are in the process of finding our way.  Since Pizzaonia is a beta-world country, we can do things that other magazines cannot do. While this is good, the choices are enormous. 

We are asked often - what is a beta-world country?  This is not an easy question to answer.  For many, we do not exist.  We are a figment of someone’s imagination.  In fact, we have Pizzaonians who believe they are fictitious. 

As the editor of our only national magazine, Pizzaonia is a place where life is as it should be.  I realize that this is subjective and will vary according to our personal experiences.  

As for life in Pizzaonia - we are different. For one, we have no government or wars.  We simply discovered they were not necessary.  We do have a military that serves no function other than filling a need for the patriotic fervor that some Pizzaonians still retain.  One thing that separates our military from others is they abhor war and avoid anything that resembles military activity. 

Pizzaonia has no natural enemies.  It is hard to feel threatened by a country that has made Mozzarella Pizza its national symbol.  While all of this may seem bizarre and “plain nuts,” can we be any more bizarre than what exists in your world? 

Since so many of our citizens portalized from the United States, we remain fascinated by what goes on there. Both Brother Franco and Brother Giovanni cover Worldonian affairs for us and they will spend considerable time editorializing on your events. (Worldonian is the name Pizzaonia calls the United States.) 

I do not mean to give the impression that we do not have problems here. We do.  We just have a different way of working them out.  Central to our existence are the Pizzaonian Monasteries and the international pizza conglomerate, Pizza digogo DiVinci.  They play an enormous part in the daily life of Pizzaonians.  We will have much to say about this in later editions.

An old controversy has raised its head again in Pizzaonia.  Brother Giovanni, former Supreme Pizzaonian, and currently a contributing editor to “The Pizzaonian,'' is back in the news because of his ongoing column "Conversations with Jesus." 

The Pizzaonian Council of Monks (PCM) and pizza conglomerate, Pizza digogo DiVinci are concerned when a prominent figure in Pizzaonian politics like Brother Giovanni engages in an activity many Pizzaonians consider weird at best and psychotic at worst. 

When asked about the controversy Brother Giovanni seemed unconcerned.  “I have never made any claim that the Jesus that I correspond with is the JESUS.  You may surmise by the way my friend addresses issues that he believes he is the Jesus of the New Testament.  I leave that for the readers to decide.  The uproar over this is overblown and inconsistent with Pizzaonian tolerance,” said Brother Giovanni. 

Brother Giovanni is a familiar figure to controversy here in Pizzaonia.  While Pizzaonia has no government or laws like other worlds, issues like this are usually resolved by consensus with an emphasis on the consideration of minority opinions. 

Sister Veronica, Supreme Pizzaonian said, “We have such pride in our “empathetic culture'” I am confident this issue will be resolved fairly.” 

Brother Giovanni added, "I have every intention to continue to publish my letters from Jesus because I think they are interesting to our readers.  There is also a chance that he is who he says he is."

At a special gathering of the Pizzaonian Monasteries, Sister Veronica, Supreme Pizzaonian, was honored for her continuing inspired leadership for Pizzaonia. 

Pizzaonia, a beta-world country, remains a peaceful and prosperous country and looks to the future as an inspiration for other countries to follow eventually. Sister Veronica has no illusions about the Pizzaonian formula for peace and prosperity working elsewhere. 

“We know we have a special circumstance in Pizzaonia.  Due to the privilege of living in a beta-world environment, we can do things that are impossible anywhere else. 

We also have the privilege of living in a country that resolved the differences in our people, not by diluting the differences, or attempting to blend them into some sort of artificial, homogenized culture, but by honoring our unique differences with mutual respect and admiration," said Sister Veronica. "Everyone has a seat and voice at our table."

The turning point in Pizzaonian politics came at the election now known as the “no vote election.”  Pizzaonian politics had reached an impasse and ceased to be effective.  Disagreements could no longer be resolved.  Ironically, during the time of the political impasse, the government grew larger and spent more money than ever before.  Nothing could seem to stop the endless process of dysfunctional government. 

Then it happened.  When it came time to vote in the national election, not a single Pizzaonian voter showed up at the polls.  The country was stunned.  Not a single vote was cast. Even more strange, not a single politician voted for himself or herself. 

This convinced Pizzaonians that government was no longer useful, and the national and local governments disbanded.  Since that time, Pizzaonians have lived in prosperity with all factions, business, political and cultural all living together in a functioning, respectful society. 

To this day, Pizzaonia lives peacefully with no government or wars.

Today, Pizzaonians celebrate their Health Awareness Anniversary Day.  This day marks a significant community event for all Pizzaonians because it honors the right of all Pizzaonian residents to the same health care. 

This anniversary also marks the coming together of all the factions within the Pizzaonian culture as one people.  Rarely, is one able to celebrate the coming together of business, political and religious cultures as one. 

Only in a beta-world country as Pizzaonia is this possible.  Where else will you find a mega corporation such as Pizza conglomerate, Pizza digogo DiVinci, dedicating itself to the service of the country it serves – and meaning it! 

In addition, the Pizzaonian Monasteries have shown unselfish dedication to the true meaning of religious freedom, allowing all religious and atheistic factions to co-exist with mutual respect.  

None of this would be possible without the miraculous effects of the Miracle Mozzarella Pizza eaten by all Pizzaonians.  Other lands should be so fortunate.
