"PIZZAONIA EMERGING" COURTESY OF THE PIZZAONIAN ART INSTITUTE, ABE STRACTION, CURATOR
Part two …….’
Who are these Pizzaonian Monks and what are they about? A question I am asked often so let me answer the question.
The Pizzaonian Way – how we all became Monks - continued.
At one time, in our beginning years here in Pizzaonia, Brother Franco and I also worked in the kitchen and bakery as helpers. You can imagine what “helpers” do. A helper is one who cleans pots and pans constantly and does little else.
At the time of the Brother Timothy pizza apparition, I had moved up the political ladder and was soon to become Supreme Pizzaonian, a position that Sister Veronica now holds. Since we shared a similar history Sister Veronica felt comfortable coming to me with her idea to unify all of Pizzaonia.
You must remember; at this time, we were still practicing “don’t ask, don’t tell” with regard to woman monks. Sister Veronica was then known as Brother Veronica, and she accepted the custom, knowing it was just a question of time until the practice would be overturned. However, that is another story.
One of our long-standing institutions here is an international pizza conglomerate, known as Pizza digogo DiVinci. Since the rumor of the Brother Timothy pizza apparition was now common knowledge in our country, Sister Veronica suggested that I approach Pizza digogo DiVinci to see if they would be willing to transfer all of their prestigious bakery operations to our bakery at the Monastery.
She was convinced that integrating the monasteries with our dominant industry could be the key to providing the economic and political stability that our fast-growing diversity now required.
She explained that this would be a unifying move that would allow all Pizzaonians to unite under the wonderful symbol of Pizza. She said, "Who does not like Pizza?" And, we also knew that the Mozzarella Pizzas made here were without a doubt, the most delicious pizzas ever made anywhere, in any universe.
Well, the rest is history and anyone interested in learning more about this fascinating early evolution of our culture can go back into the archives of our founders at http://giovanniandfranco.com (August and September 2009)
I would be less than candid if I pretended all went smoothly from that point forward, but anyone familiar with our history knows that was not the case.
While we may be a country without the need for government or wars, we are human and all the vagaries of the human condition also exist here. We are simply better at managing them than you are in your world.
For one, there was the basic problem of integrating a private pizza conglomerate as the economic engine of Pizzaonia. And, could they help create a culture of peace and stability that we intended to unify behind the universal pizza symbol? That is an awesome responsibility, and we were naïve in the beginning to believe that it would evolve without considerable controversy.
First, let me
remind you the one thing we all have in common in Pizzaonia is our identity
as Pizzaonian Monks. What we needed was
a way to create economic stability around a product that would create shared
wealth and still preserve our Pizzaonian tradition.
We knew from your example that wealth seldom creates stability, unless there is a mechanism in place that allows all to participate in sharing the wealth.
The question that we had to answer was how can you do this and still have a free-market economy? We knew if we could not answer this we would have what you have – great wealth with haves and have nots.
Strange as
it may seem we applied the same techniques and process that your defense establishment has always employed. However, instead of war, we mobilized an
entire universe around the concept of making “pizza.”
And from this we formed the "pizza industrial complex." The only difference between our industrial complex and yours is the end product. While it may be the only difference, what a difference
it is. If prepared properly and eaten with some discretion, Pizza has not been known to kill anyone directly - at least not the way we make it here.
