The United States from a Pizzaonian perspective
There are days when you have very little news to report. The fact is that is most days. Remove crime, corruption and incompetence and we would not need the news – at least it sometimes seems that way judging from what we see being reported.
We in the news business should be grateful for these three entities: big cities for crime - governments of all sizes for corruption - and politicians for their predictable incompetence. Just think how little we would have to report without them.
Let’s all be grateful for the big CC and I.
I guess we could be like the rest of the news business and play “the sky is falling business” over the shutdown of the U.S. government – but somehow that seems unseemly.
For one the “sky is not falling” but not for the reasons most think. The simple fact is that your world needs the U.S. Granted this is starting to be stretched thin, but it is, for the moment, still the case.
Because you live in a very unstable and shaky world, you are still needed for the stability you bring to the table. It does seem like a contradiction since your political structure has the integrity and stability of a heroin user swearing never to use again.
Quite a predicament for what many historians consider the “greatest experiment in human history.”
So for the most part, the world just grins and bears you like you would do with any 20 year old billionaire whose money and influence you needed. However, if that money position ever weakens – it is all over.
Simple fact of life: If you cannot govern yourself with dignity and self-respect, you are going to get very little consideration or respect from anyone. Just hope your money supply holds out until you regain your senses.
We in Pizzaonia are betting one more time it will.
