Conjectures of a recovering dilettante – A Pizzaonian perspective on public unions and other stuff.
Why don’t they get it?
Nothing confuses pro-union Pizzaonians more than the holier-than-thou attitude of American union leaders, particularly the leaders of public employee unions.
To be clear, we support and believe in their cause. However, as the United States recovers from its recent financial reverses public unions, in particular, should be aware of how easy they are to hate.
When many working-class Americans are still struggling to earn a decent wage, the salaries and benefits of working union members are to be envied.
This makes union members easy targets for the right to exploit, and union leadership makes it easier for them by painting the targets on their own backs.
This is not the time for a “circle the wagons “mentality. It is time to stop being so defensive and outraged because the public doesn’t like you. Forget about telling everyone why you deserve your pay and benefits. It is time to forget you and start telling the world how positive the result of your work actually is and start making the public aware of the many lives that have been changed for the better because of you.
You might be surprised how good the results might be once people start realizing they are getting their money’s worth.
