TO THE PIZZAONIAN:
You might get the hint of a bias here, but how long can we deal with people who believe they are endowed with the “Truth” and see it as their holy obligation to save us from ourselves.
Most of our left and right leaning demagogues are outstanding candidates to head the Inquisition if it returns. If these folks continue to obtain political power, you can substitute when for if.
Save us from those who are willing to die for their causes, especially those who are never asked to die but bask in the glorious thought that they would if the occasion arose. Incidentally, they seem quite willing to take us with them. .
None of these folks would be around very long if the average American decided to stop playing lip service to democracy and VOTE...
Has anyone noticed in the 2014 Congressional elections only 36* per cent of the eligible voters showed up? And guess whom that 36 percent was, you got it – mostly the dogmatists from the far right that learned they could obtain power because everyone else stayed home!
That’s why we have candidates who have to imitate the three stooges plus one to have a chance of winning. What else could explain the embarrassing idiocy that we witnessed during our last elections?
Just in case you have not noticed, cable news networks who are desperate to obtain viewers discovered they could make money by televising political talk shows that spew this nonsense since more people were willing to watch these spectacles over their regular news programming. That should tell you something right there.
You would think our common sense would prevail and see the need for principled moderates of our political spectrum to act. In case you miss my point, this means you and me.
Most of us reasonable folks have to be content with making small gains toward what we see as an “evolving” good. This means accepting modest political gains because reasonableness forces us to consider the points of view of those who disagree with us.
This requires an acceptance of success defined as moving forward in inches instead of yards for the good of our country. That is the essence of a successful pluralistic democracy.
Wow, what a novel idea!
