BROTHER GIOVANNI'S JOURNAL
Every time it is suggested I reject the idea. Brother Franco keeps insisting that I write a journal about how we all came together here in Pizzaonia, a beta-world country in an alternate universe. I must confess that I am weakening which by now you have figured out since you are reading this.
Part of Brother Franco's reasoning includes his belief that more background information might mitigate the controversy over the "Letters from Jesus" that also appear in "The Pizzaonian." If that could happen, I would have more than enough motivation to continue.
It is hard to know where to begin. I am sure, for those who care; there are many misconceptions about Pizzaonia and the Pizzaonian Monasteries. The most prevalent is that we are a country defined by a religious order and somehow we all found each other here in what must seem to be a very strange place.
Pizzaonia is really not all that strange. Our culture here was construed from the best and worst aspirations of the human spirit and then molded into a community by our founder, Pizzaonius.
You might be wondering why Pizzaonius added the worst of human aspirations to the mix. He discovered in his quest to create a community without the need for wars or government that here, like everywhere else; humans are not constructed psychologically to live in complete harmony. We need a certain amount of tension and conflict to entertain us.
Unfortunately, in your world, your need for tension and conflict in your daily lives has led to world wars and a variety of sundry violent conflicts that seem to go on without end. This left Pizzaonius in a quandary. He needed to create some tension in our lives without it leading to what he called “the inevitable cave man propensity for violence.”
He needed an antagonist, but one that could exist within his concept of a peaceful society. And thus was created Pizza digogo DiVinci, a Pizzaonian, international pizza conglomerate that is now the economic engine of our country. Since it was Pizzaonius’s idea to create a peaceful country, it was only natural that he made pizza the national symbol of Pizzaonia. Very few countries have been invaded to take over their pizza monopoly. As a result, Pizza digogo DiVinci is an antagonist that provides just enough tension and conflict to keep it entertaining without being destructive.
The other creation by Pizzaonius was the Pizzaonian Monasteries. It is assumed by most that the Monasteries are religious institutions, and to some extent, they are. However, here our monasteries are more “people” institutions and virtually everyone who lives in Pizzaonia is part of the monastery family. Becoming a monk is commonplace and anyone who subscribes to the Monasteries mission statement is allowed to join. Our mission statement is simply, “every dogma has its day,” and sworn allegiance to this concept is the only vow we take.
For the most part, the Monasteries, Pizza digogo DiVinci and the community live in relative harmony. However, that was not always the case. For those interested in this evolution, you can go to http://giovanniandfranco.com where you will find much about our history.
For my journal I would like to focus upon the relationships of the people who make up our community. I think you will find them interesting and entertaining as you get to know them better.
When we have more time I would like to tell you about Sister Veronica, our Supreme Pizzaonian. No other person represents the freedom and opportunity we have here more than she does.
Till next time…. May Mozzarella always be part of your Pizza Experience?
