A Pizzaonian perspective ........
The most difficult part of the Christian perspective for non-Christians is its outspoken intolerance for other religions. This seems to be a direct contradiction with the Christian message of tolerance and love.
The word “intolerance” will seem strong for Christians to accept, but for non-Christians, Christianity not only seems intolerant, it also seems hypocritical.
Unfortunately, parts of our history give this point of view some credence. Strong criticism, but real, and its time for Christians to speak directly to its critics rather than put on the martyr’s cloak and hide behind the facade of self- righteousness.
How did this happen and what can we do about it? For many Christians, this topic is redundant and simply part of the Christian experience on the road to the “truth.” Just remain true to the faith and on course, and God will work out the rest.
The problem with this approach is it depends on God to do the heavy lifting. If, we the faithful, are the voice of Christianity in this world, than maybe the heavy lifting is up to us.
The question remains: How do we stay consistent with our original Christian message and still accept, with understanding and tolerance, the other religions in the world? Simply living in a pluralistic society that allows for freedom of religion is not enough.
And finally, where do you stand on this?
Till then ……….
