The world is often divided into people groups. It occurred to us here in Pizzaonia that in the United States, you have two basic groups when it comes to practicing good works or charity. You have the givers and the doers. Both are necessary, but are composed of very different mindsets.
For one, the doers are the group that saints come from. The givers are very important because they supply the means for the doers to help those in need. In between these two, you have sub groups - there are the non-givers, occasional givers, non-doers and occasional doers. These sub groups often migrate from one to another.
The major difference is the doers are willing to enter the mud so “the lotus may grow.” That distinction makes them unique. It takes extraordinary courage to overcome your fears and accept the consequences of entering the arena of the poor and disenfranchised. Any yet, many do it each day.
For those of us who are givers, let us be grateful everyday for the doers. They may be the only reason our planet still stays in orbit. All of us could name famous doers who have given everything, including their lives when necessary – and we are indebted to them for showing the way.
However, here in Pizzaonia we would like to pay special tribute to the anonymous doers in every community who go out each day and help the most desperate among us. These are special people. Regardless of your spiritual convictions, you have to believe their courage and empathy with the human condition has allowed them a special insight or grace that makes them special.
As for me, I thank God for their existence and hope in someway their courage will show me the way.
